This is our (Hi)Story
Our House Restaurant, located on Route 524 in Farmingdale/Howell, New Jersey, is a historic establishment with roots that trace back to the 18th century. The building, which houses the restaurant, was originally constructed in 1747, making it one of the oldest structures in the area. It was originally a farmhouse and part of the region's colonial landscape. The restaurant is widely known for its rich history, including stories that connect it to significant events during the Revolutionary War.
One notable legend is that George Washington is said to have stayed in the building during the Revolutionary War, adding a sense of prestige and historical importance to the establishment. Over the centuries, the property has undergone multiple renovations and changes in ownership, adapting to different eras while retaining its colonial charm.
Our House Restaurant has long been a part of the Farmingdale and Howell communities, serving as a hub for social gatherings, events, and dining. It gained a reputation for its traditional American cuisine, specializing in comfort food and classic dishes. The building's age and architectural significance have made it a landmark in the area, attracting both locals and visitors interested in its historical connection.
In recent years, the Mowla Family has maintained its historical charm while also embracing modern trends in dining for over 20 years. That includes the addition of a banquet facility and a food truck that can be seen driving throughout and beyond Monmouth County. The restaurant includes two rooms that can be rented out for parties under 50 people and the more than 300 seat banquet room can be split in half for two events of more than 100 people. Its story is reflective of the broader history of the region, which was a focal point during the Revolutionary period and has evolved into a suburban area that values its historical heritage.
